Overview
Chiang Rai is bordered by Myanmar and Laos, situated 785km north of Bangkok and was founded in 1252 by King Meng Rai. It was the first capital of Lanna Thai (Kingdom of a Million Ricefields) and is home to Thailand’s northern-most point at Mae Sai. Well known for its crisp mountain scenery and hill tribes it falls within the region known as the Golden Triangle, the area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: Bangkok – Chiang Mai
You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel, lunch is followed by a local tour. Enjoy a traditional Northern Khantoke dinner followed by a visit to the famous night market.

DAY 2: Chiang Mai
Take a morning City & Temples Tour, visiting two of the most famous temples; DoiSuthep on a hill overlooking the city and Wat SuanDok. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 3: Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai
Travel towards the mystical Golden Triangle, visit the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp, take an elephant trek through the jungle to a Lisu hill-tribe village. After lunch, raft down the Ping River then travel overland through Fang and Thaton onto Chiang Rai, the afternoon and evening are free to explore Chiang Rai.

DAY 4: Chiang Rai
Take a morning long-tailed boat ride along the Mae Kok River to a Karen hill-tribe village. In the afternoon, tour the famous Golden Triangle area where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge, visit the Opium Museum and Thailand’s Northern most town of Mae Sai.

DAY 5: Chiang Rai
Transfer to the airport for your onward travel arrangements.
